In Memory

George H. M. Rountree

George Rountree passed away last Sunday (June 14) after a 7 year journey (as his sister put it) with Alzheimer's. He was living in a memory care facility in Seattle, near one of his sons. I don't know of any arrangements at this point, but I am in touch with his sister (Anne)and brother (David). Not only was George a good friend in high school, but we went to Dartmouth together and shared many experiences there. He was a smart, active, and funny guy. He will be missed!

George H. M.Rountree III surrendered to Alzheimer's on June 14, 2015 in Seattle, WA. He was 65 years of age. A proud Dartmouth Alumnus, George had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and relished every opportunity to work with his hands. Throughout his eight year journey with Alzheimer's George never lost his passion for running, his taste for ice cream, nor his unique sense of humor. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Chautauqua Grand Meeting Hall, 900 Baseline Rd, on July 11 at 3:00 PM

I am very sorry to hear about George. I remember him as obviously very bright, and a good, tough soccer player a starter on the varsity for two years anyway. He was very fair, and got bright red cheeks when he was on the field from his exertions. It is hard for me to believe he's gone, with such vivid memories of him as a teenager. Pres Ruddell

George was a good friend.  We played a lot of tennis together, and he was a very good soccer player and gymnast, in addition to being an extraordinary student. After he got his MBA at Tuck, he moved to Chicago for a few years and we had dinner together occasionally. In the midwest, he was quite taken with the outdoor life and spent several vacations in the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota, before finally moving to Colorado, where, I am sad to say, we lost touch with each other.  It is hard to hear about an old friend succumbing to that wretched disease at such a young age.

So sorry to read of the passing of George Rountree.  Although I didn't know him really well, I remember him as being a caring, smart, athletic classmate ~ may he rest in Peace.

I remember George Roundtree as a shy and quiet classmate, maybe a little embarrassed talking to others because his face would blush up a bit.  Very sweet.  It's so sad to see such nice people saying goodbye to us at such an early age.
