Mark Hopkins '68

Mark Everett Hopkins, 66, of South Dennis, died early Sunday morning at Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by his loving family, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mark was born to the late Preston and Marie Hermence (Phaneuf) Hopkins on January 16, 1950 in Needham, MA. Mark graduated from Needham High School in 1968 and earned a degree from Bryant and Stratton School of Business in 1971. Mark worked at John Hancock Insurance Company for over 30 years where he met his wonderful wife, Beverly, and several life-long friends.

Mark and his family moved to South Dennis in 1998, where he enjoyed playing golf at the Dennis Golf Courses, going to the beach, and exploring Cape Cod. Mark was an avid sports fan and loved all the Boston teams, especially the Boston Bruins. Mark played hockey as well as softball for several years. Mark's biggest passions were spending time with his family and deer hunting in Maine.

Mark was an active member of Cape Cod Covenant Church, in Brewster, acting as the Financial Secretary for several years. Mark also was a long-time Freemason, being a member of J. Philip Berquist Lodge in Foxborough, and Mount Horeb Lodge in South Dennis.

Mark is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Beverly Hopkins, and his 26-year-old twins, Douglas Hopkins, of New London, CT and Jessica Hopkins, of South Dennis. Mark is also survived by his brother Ronnie Hopkins and his wife Barbara of Maine; his sister Carolyn (Hopkins) Goodwin and her husband John of Maine; and his brother Preston Hopkins of Maine. Mark leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mark is pre-deceased by two of his brothers, Arthur and Gerard Hopkins. Mark was such a kind, loving, and fun man and made friends everywhere he went. He will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will be on Friday, November 11th, from 4 to 7pm at Doane, Beal, and Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt. 134 in South Dennis, MA. Funeral Service will be on Saturday at 11am at Cape Cod Covenant Church, 11 Satucket Rd, Brewster, with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Dennis.
