Venora Stinchfield Dow, died Sept. 17, 2014.
Life:
Born in Clinton Maine in 1916.
Graduated from Bucksport (Maine) High School and from the University of Maine where she was the recipient of the Charles Davidson Scholarship and a member of the honorary societies Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi. After teaching in Maine for four years, she married Robert Dow and moved to Massachusetts.
She taught in Needham High School where she became assistant director of the Foreign Language Department.
During this period she was appointed a John Hay Fellow to study at Harvard University for an academic year. Also she received a scholarship to study in France for a summer. After moving to their summer home on Cape Cod, she and Robert moved to Fort Myers, Florida.
She loved the activities and her friends there and especially enjoyed duplicate bridge and ballroom dancing.
In 2005 she moved to independent living at Brooksby Village in Peabody where she was thankful for friends and often remarked, I am a part of all that I have met.
Family:
She is survived by her son Richard Dow of Brattleboro, Vermont,
her daughter Sandra Dow of Newburyport, Massachusetts,
her daughter-in-law Susan Dow,
her grandsons Ben and Greg Dow, his wife Ilana Bjorlie, and many friends.
