In Memory

Valerie Eaton (Preston)

Valerie Eaton Preston, 66, of Littleton, MA died peacefully Sunday, March 29th, 2015 at Parmenter Hospice Care in Wayland, MA after a long battle with cancer. Born on February 6th, 1949 in Worcester, MA to Dexter Joseph Eaton and Jeanette White Eaton of Needham, MA, Val graduated Needham High School in 1967 and went on to receive her BA from New England College in 1971. She married Kent Preston of Springfield, NJ in 1972 and then settled in Littleton, MA where they lived for 40 years. Along the way Val kept busy with a variety of occupations, from elementary school teacher to bartender, floral designer to billing clerk. But most of her time was spent as a guide, coach, nurse, taxi, and advocate for her two boys, Jonathan and Dexter. Her friends will remember Val as a talented hostess, excellent cook, creative crafter and devoted confidant. Theyll tell you of summers at Lake Winnipesaukee, winters in a hot tub and cocktails in kitchens in-between. Vals family will tell you of her love of sunshine, her incredible and long lasting friendships and her eternal struggle against cat hair. Valerie is survived by her husband Kent Preston of Littleton, MA, son Jonathan and daughter-in-law Sarah Preston of Westborough, MA, son Dexter and daughter-in-law Stephanie Preston of Redlands, CA, grandson Emmitt Preston, 3, and granddaughter Charlotte Preston, 1, and two cats Pixi and Hou. A small private service for Valerie is planned in June. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the MSPCA. Visit and click Donate.

Val was a great person and friend -- she was a very Worthy Advisor in Rainbow Girls and helped to mentor me up the line as well.  Although I did not keep in touch with her over the years -- I have very fond memories or our times together -- she lived on Eaton Road just across the fence from me -- my thoughts and prayers go out to her family as they deal with their loss of a wonderful, joyful person.
