It's a long way back, but Fred was one of the nicest guys to ever walk the planet.

Fred was a good man and a major part of my young life from age 16 to 27. His sidekick was Charlie Ward and they were inseparable.  He was kind, caring and "wicked smart". My grandmother and mother were two of his biggest fans. He and my grandmother hit it off famously, spent over a decade enjoying each other's company and I do believe they are in heaven now laughing together over some little funny joke. My mother thought there was no one like him. For many years, he used to sit for hours with my mother and grandmother on our cottage's front porch. The neighbors in the summer and in Walpole used to call him , "Mr. Movie Star" because he was handsome. He was a great salesman and he could build anything! He also had great tenacity and when he decided to do something, he did it!  During the blizzard of 78, he was stuck in Boston and I was in Walpole. All he had was his briefcase and his wingtipped shoes, business suit and overcoat. He walked the 33 miles two days aftet the blizzard just to get home. After the news spread throughout the neighborhood, the next door neigbors held a "Great Feats Inspired by the Blizzard" party and he was the guest of honor. We had many good years together before an inherited illness made him very sick. He died way too young but did leave a postivie impact on the people he knew. He truly had a good heart.
