William Scanlon '68

William R. Scanlon, 68, of Needham died peacefully Sunday, July 2nd 2017 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, BettyAnn (Navin) Scanlon, his daughters Alissa Cameron and husband Collin of Milton and Stacey Cawley and her husband Matt of Medfield, and son William Ross Scanlon and his fiance Caitlin Smith of Fayetteville, NC. Son of the late William E. Scanlon and Vivian (Paquette) Scanlon, he was the brother of Patricia of Augusta MI, Michael and his wife Donna of Hingham, James of Newton, Katherine of Walpole, Marguerite of Mansfield, and John and his wife Phyllis of Medfield. Beloved "Puppy" to grandchildren Delaney and Paige Cameron, Anna and Elle Cawley. Bill was raised and resided in Needham where he was an arborist, local business owner and member of the Needham Village Club. Among a myriad of licenses, certifications and membership he was most proud of his US Coast Guard Master 100 ton vessel captain license and IGFA Charter boat license. He cherished his custom Duffy "Hooked On" fishing boat and enjoyed fishing and lobstering. He had a passion for traveling the world. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ae, Needham, on Thursday, July 6th from 4-8 pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Bill's Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph Church, 1362 Highland Ave, Needham, on Friday at 10 am. Interment will follow at Needham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's name may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 9 Erie Dr, Natick, MA 01760.
