Jonathan Nelson Welch

60, of Hidden Basin, AK, formerly of Needham, died March 5, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jon was born in Wellesley, son of the late Lt. Col. Bushnel Welch and Sally Thorup Welch. Jon spent his growing up years in Wellesley Hills, Montgomery, AL, Anchorage, AK and Denver, CO. He summered in Jamestown, RI. Jonathan graduated from Needham High School, earned a Degree in Hotel Management from Paul Smith's College and attended New England School of Photography. Jonathan was married to Cindy Walsh of NJ.
He co-owned Welch Brothers Kodiak Expeditions with his brother Jeffrey (NHS '69) and was an expert huntsman and sports fisherman. Jon made his home in Hidden Basin, AK, where he dearly savored the beauty and wonder of nature. He traveled frequently to visit his beloved friends and family in AK, New England, FL, OK and TX.
Jonathan leaves his dearest friends, his brother Jeffrey Sheridan Welch of Kodiak, AK, Robert Cotton Welch of Rangeley, ME, his sister, Betsy Welch Ruzicka of Duxbury, his nephews Dylan and William Welch and a niece Abbie Ruzicka. He is predeceased by his beloved grandparents Sheridan and Elizabeth Thorup.
Jonathan will be cremated in AK, according to his desires and a Memorial Service will be arranged by friends and family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Jonathan would ask that we stop and smell the roses....
