From Chris Pahud (NHS '69)    Oddly enough, my niece is also a grand daughter of Harry Walen.  Harry died last month at age 93 and I took my niece to his memorial service in Rockport where his family was from originally and where he had lived these past 30 years.  Very nice service.  Needham was never mentioned.

I fondly remember Mr. Walen. I needed extra credit in my science class and for one semester, I was Needham High School's weather girl. Everyday I would have to go to Mr. Walen's office and report the weather over the PA system (the weather was taken in the morning from the Earth Science classroom and the weather equipment on the roof).
Also, for our 35th Reunion, I spoke to Mr. Walen and he gave us copies of his book, Images and Perceptions, 1996. He told me that his wife urged him to published his poems, which he did.
I have such good memories of him as principal and my 4 years at Needham High.
Rest in peace, Mr. Walen.
